As manager of the St. George SDA Primary School I worked with the principal and the Alumni Association to establish a brand new library. The intention was that the school, church and community will benefit tremendously from reading, knowing that reading is power.

Together we solicited contributions for the establishment of a library from the Grenada Conference of Seventh-day Adventist, the churches in the school’s constituency, the business community, friends of the school and parents. Patrons from countries abroad were also solicited and they contributed to this successful venture.

Training sessions were organised for student librarians to assist the designated school librarian. As a result of this initiative many students became interested in reading and became avid readers.

Through the Parent Teacher’s Association two seminars were organised for parents.

  1. Nutrition seminar
  2. Parenting classes

The Food and Nutrition Council was engaged and professionals from the council gave practical sessions teaching the parents to prepare healthy snacks for the health and well-being of their children. At the graduation ceremony the parents expressed their gratitude for this valuable initiative.

Sister Donna Gordon, a trained counsellor, taught the parenting classes. Parents and teachers were instructed to discipline with love successfully.

We realised that there was a need to introduce our students to computers with the realisation that this was a valuable component to the general holistic education of our students. After negotiations with the Prime Minister of our country he contributed five computers to commence the establishment of a computer lab for the school. Later we received a bigger contribution of twenty computers completing a full lab to accommodate a complete class of students. To date we have had over fifty computers in the lab.
